Youth Program
Slippers-N-Sliders Youth Ski Program
Youth of club members are automatically members of our Youth Ski/Snowboard Program. The only requirement is that they be between 5 and 18 years of age [denoted as kindergarten through senior high school students]. The Youth Director and Assistant Youth Director are responsible for planning and supervising youth activities as well as apprising the club membership of those youth showing promise or race ability. There are at least six (6) one-day trips to a mountain resort that are geared toward learning and improving their abilities. In addition to the learn-to-ski/snowboard trips, the Youth Ski/Snowboard Program encourages youth to participate on the race development team. The team is supervised by professional instructors and experienced adults. This program consists of one-day, Saturday trips (November through April) that provide all-terrain skiing/snowboarding, which readies the youth for potential race programs. Race teams provide racers with a coach and training to include stance, gate techniques, and race competition throughout the winter season. Parental involvement is paramount. The expectation is that parents provide their time, money, and transportation to/from the mountain unless there is a carpool mechanism among other team participants.
The Slippers-N-Sliders Ski Club subsidizes the cost of lessons and lift tickets for the youth in these programs.
Parents who go to the mountain with the youth are not allowed to take them out of their lessons upon reaching the mountain. Parents are also not allowed to pick them up once the lessons are completed for the day. The instructors will release each youth to the Youth Directors or Chaperones, only. Ski/snowboard instructors will provide a written report card for each child each trip.
For more information, to volunteer, or to enroll your child in our Youth Program, contact the current Club . You can get the current director's name and phone number from our Club Officers page.
For youth to be a member of the Slippers-N-Sliders Youth Programs, the family must have current, completed club Membership Application and Youth Application forms. In addition, an Emergency Medical Treatment form is required before a child is allowed to participate.
Ages
Youth must be between 5 and 18 years of age. Children between 5 and 8 years may have to be evaluated to determine if a parent must accompany the child on a trip.
Transportation
Bus Pick-up:
The club's Board will determine the
location from one year to the next. It depends on the general membership
meeting contract.
Bus Schedule:
Departure is at 6:30 AM and return at 5:30 PM, weather and traffic permitting. Parents must be at the pick-up location on-time.
Cost
The cost is per child each trip and includes transportation, lesson, lift ticket, and snacks. Each skier/snowboarder is assessed a one-time administrative fee every winter sports season. The costs established for Youth Program trips do not apply to ADULT scheduled trips for those youth 13 and over.
Parents are invited to accompany their youth on the Youth trips at a cost that is established for the ADULT trips. Because the youth will be in lessons, the parents will not have the opportunity to ski/snowboard with them.
Payment
Trip payments are collected on the morning of the trip via cash or check and made payable to Slippers-N-Sliders Ski Club. There is no refund once the bus leaves the parking lot. Also, credit from raffle ticket sales may be a form of payment (explained below.).
Raffle Ticket Sales
The Annual Raffle Ticket Sale is one of the Youth Ski/Snowboard Program's fundraisers. Credit from raffle ticket sales may reduce the out-of-pocket expenses for parents. Each family may sell and/or purchase raffle tickets to cover the administrative fee, and/or the cost of the day trips for the entire season, and/or any portion of the season. Credit will not be carried over to the next winter sports season. The credit may be used for participation in the S-N-S Youth Ski/Snow-board Program only, and not for club ADULT trips, or Rocky Mountain Regional, or National Brotherhood of Skiers Programs. Raffle ticket credit is non-refundable.
Bus Refreshments
Morning and afternoon snacks are provided; however, no meals are provided. Youth should be fed at home or given breakfast to eat on the bus. The ski school provides lunch during each of the day-trips.
Administrative Fee
A one-time administrative fee is charged on the first trip for each child who rides the Youth bus and participates in the Youth Program. This charge is enforced throughout the winter sports season. This fee assists in defraying some of the costs regarding lessons and transportation.
Equipment and Clothing
Parents are responsible for renting ski/snowboard equipment (i.e., boots, poles, skis, snowboards) the night before the trip. Clothing may include: a winter jacket, bibs, mittens or gloves, goggles, hat, turtle-neck, thermal underwear, and a sports bag for belongings while not in use. Outerwear should be water resistant. Please mark all equipment and clothing with the child's name for identification purposes.
Family Ski Days
Family Ski Day trips are when the club schedules for both adults and youth to attend at the same time. When the club schedules a Family Ski Day trip, parents are responsible for skiing/snowboarding with their youth unless they are enrolled in lessons. Winter Park is an example of such an event when the club reserves spaces on the Ski Train for all club members.
Guests
Each child is allowed to bring a skiing/snowboarding, non-member guest once during the winter sports season at a cost of the administrative fee, plus the trip cost. The youth are required to participate in the activity planned for that day. The Youth Ski/Snowboard Program forms that members complete for their youth must be provided prior to any child being allowed on the bus. RESERVATIONS ARE MANDATORY. If the youth would like to participate again, a club Membership Application must be completed accompanying the membership fee.
Chaperones
Chaperones must be skiers and/or snowboarders who are assigned. They are responsible for skiing/snowboarding with the youth on the mountain when they are not in a structured class. Chaperones could be parents who frequent the Youth Program day-trips, have youth in one of the ski/snowboard programs, or members who enjoy working with youth. The Chaperones are also responsible for serving refreshments on the bus and assisting the youth when they get dressed or ready for their lessons as the bus gets close to the resort.
Cancellation Policy
The trip may be cancelled on the Wednesday before a trip, if there are not at least 30 people committed for the trip.
Confirmations
Contact the Youth Director and/or Assistant Youth Director starting on the Sunday before the scheduled trip to reserve a seat on the bus. Reservations must be completed by the Wednesday before the Saturday trip. Each child is required to have a seat on the bus. This means that we cannot put more youth on the bus than there are seats. Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Youth with raffle ticket credit must also confirm their reservations.
Discipline
If a child is, or becomes a discipline problem, the parent will be informed. If a second incident occurs, the parent may be required to attend all trips with the child, or the child may not be allowed to continue with the program.
Radios & Electronic Games
Youth may bring Walkmans, MP3 and CD players, Gameboys, and other electronic devices. However, it is not recommended. These items are not allowed into the ski school. The Slippers-N-Sliders Ski Club is NOT responsible for replacing any damaged, lost, or stolen items.
Ski/Snowboard Programs
Learn to Ski (Never-ever Skiers/Snowboarders)
This is the entry-level program. Youth who have never attempted skiing/snowboarding, or have not mastered the art of control on skis/snowboards are automatically placed in this program.
Ski Skills Training (Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced)
This program concentrates on developing skiing/snowboarding skills for moving the athlete onto advanced programs and developing skills to improve as a recreational skier/ snowboarder. The youth will spend up to 6 weeks at the same ski resort during the wintersports season. Their instructors are employees of the resort. Skills development includes balancing, turning, wedging, stopping, paralleling, independent leg action, stance, carving, and pole planting.
Terrain
The Learn-to-Ski/Snowboard and Skills Training Programs are conducted on green, blue and/or black slopes as appropriate.
The youth are involved in race training and will participate in races. This is an advanced ski skills and race development program. The youth ski/snowboard at one area and will have a race coach skiing/snowboarding with them the entire season. This program is the beginning of race development and is held on Saturdays. The program will run from November through April.
The parents of youth in the race programs are responsible for getting them to the ski resort for training and races. Youth who do not complete the team training and race requirements will forfeit the club subsidy the following year. The Slippers-N-Sliders Ski Club is not responsible for refunding monies paid by the parents for these programs.
